"Ng Joon Kiat uses the tactility of paint to explore conceptions of space as well as the concrete realities of urbanization today. Driven by an interest in the fast-changing horizon and urban landscape of Singapore, Ng Joon Kiat spent two years studying old maps of the city-state. ‘Green Series: Nature, Borders, Spaces’ is a recent exploration into the construction of maps and imagined geographies. At the same time, they also reference the way in which an ease of access to maps today via the Internet has altered our conceptions of urban spaces and land. Through the tactility of his paint surfaces, an interplay between nature’s forces and man-made interventions emerge all at once, simultaneously giving way and engulfing traces of each other."
