ICON Singapore | 'Local Artist Sarah Choo Jing Inspires Reflection Through Imagery'

Dion Tang, ICON Singapore, October 23, 2024
"One of the most anticipated events of the Singapore Art Week held in January this year was the immersive exhibition titled "Gestures of Affection" organized by fashion giant Valentino and local artist Sarah Choo Jing. She used a novel approach to convey the emotional expressions of women's tenacity, sensibility, empathy, individuality, freedom, passion and fragility through a series of seven dynamic images and photographs, through carefully designed compositions and artistic conceptions.

She believes that cross-border collaboration not only creates new sparks, but also provides new perspectives. In addition to the exhibition of works, the collaboration with Valentino also includes an immersive dinner, allowing guests to interact with the works and provide a deeper artistic experience through intimate communication. "I am increasingly aware of the importance of cross-border collaboration. Many times, artists tend to work independently and are accustomed to having complete control. Collaborating with people who have different ideas may make you feel uneasy because you can't control the power, which is undoubtedly the most exciting and beautiful part of the creative process.

Sarah Choo Jing's works have long been recognized internationally. She won the first prize in the Moving Image category of the Moscow International Photography Award, was shortlisted for the 2014 Sovereign Outstanding Asian Art Award, represented Singapore in the 19th Japan Media Art Festival in 2016, etc. Her works have been exhibited in “Art Paris” held at the Grand Palais in Paris and the Busan Museum of Art in South Korea. Currently, her work “The Hidden Dimension II” is also on display in the joint exhibition “The Brilliance of Art: Thirty Years of Contemporary Art in China and Singapore” held by the Singapore Art Museum and the Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art."
