"Frieze New York will return to the Shed this May with over 65 galleries representing more than 25 countries.

This year’s edition, which runs from May 7 to May 11, aims to provide a snapshot of contemporary art’s commercial and conceptual concerns. It features a mix of international heavyweights, like White Cube, Goodman Gallery and Kurimanzutto, alongside prominent New York galleries such as Gagosian and David Zwirner.

The Focus section, curated for the second year by Lumi Tan, offers a platform for emerging galleries and lesser-known artists. Seven of the twelve exhibitors presenting solo shows in the section are first-time participants: Champ Lacombe, G Gallery, King’s Leap, Management, Public, Voloshyn Gallery, Yeo Workshop

In a press release, Tan said she was pleased that the Focus section this year built up its international presence, with galleries from Seoul, Singapore, London, Kyiv, and Biarritz joining an already international section.

Notable projects in the Focus section include an homage to artist and curator Jenni Crain, who died at 30 due to Covid-19 complications, video works exploring the Black trans experience by Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, and Balinese artist Citra Sasmita’s textile-based reinterpretation of Indonesian epics. Frieze Week will also feature major institutional shows across New York, including Amy Sherald’s survey at the Whitney Museum and Rashid Johnson’s retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum."
