Yeo Workshop is presenting the first solo exhibition in Singapore of Melbourne-based artist and curator Jonathan Nichols. The exhibition was initially scheduled for June 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nichols, who lived in Singapore for six years, draws extensively upon the direct experience of local painters in his research and artist practice. His exhibition features paintings that explore the idea that paintings have a character and temper like people. Nichols was inspired by the work of Chinese painter Wu Guanzhong and traced his processes to develop his own practice using Chinese paper. The exhibition catalogue will include an essay by Australian art writer Quentin Sprague.
